RIGA MONUMENTS

In the first photo, it's a picture from a building.
In the second photo, it's the Dome Cathedral ("Doma Balzica"). The foundation stone of the Dome was laid in 1211, when Bishop Albert had a great plan of building a church, a monastery, some more buildings to present the power of Catholic church in Riga.

Its present appearance is a result of impact of numerous architectural styles during centuries. The oldest part, built in the manner of Romanesque, is the Altar. Gothic style has left its influence on the development of Basilica, Baroque has changed the Dome Spire to present state, by the way, the height of the spire is 90 m, as well as the Easter Pediment. The pseudo-gothic Western Entrance was built in the second part of the 19th cent. (architect J.Felsko). Then stained-glass panels were placed in the windows also.

The Dome Cathedral is famous for its organ, constructed by a German company "E.F.Walker & Co" in 1884. The reconstruction of it was carried out by the Dutch company "Flentrop-Orgelbow B.V.-Zaandam".

Now the services are held in the Dome Cathedral, as well as you can enjoy the organ concerts there.

In the third photo, it's the French Ambassy. It's beautiful, don't u think??

In the fourth photo, it's a brass about Captain Brisson (French, that's why I took the photo, lol), he saved Latvia in 1919.

In the last photo, it's the House of blackHeads. Unfortunately, one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga was destroyed during the II World War, because the building of the Blackheads' Organization was one of the most impressive architectural monuments in the city. This building, first mentioned in 1344, built in Gothic style, was a seat of single merchants belonging to the Merchants' Guild. Their patron was St.Mauricius, therefore it gained the name of Blackheads' Organization.

It was rebuilt in 2001 with careful attention to its original structure and exterior ornamentation to commemorate the city's 800th anniversary. Originally owned by a merchant guild, in its current reincarnation the House of Blackheads serves as a museum and sometimes concert hall.

One of my favourite car (After audi of course!) In Riga a lot of rich people had BMW...There wasn't a lot of french cars :(, there was more german cars.

I took the donkey's noise in a statue. They said that it gives you good luck!

In the fourth photo, it's the Building of Small Guildhall ("Maza Gilde")
Craftsmen did not have such an importance influence to city's activities as merchants did, therefore even their Guild was called the Small, just opposite to Merchants' Guild. Small Guild was established in 1352, the number of corporations increased till 40 in the XVIIIth century. The building of Small Guild was built in the XIVth century, big reconstructions took place in 1694 and 1743-1744. The present building of Small Guild was built in 1864-1866 by J.D.Felsko who completely destroyed the former building. Now a culture house "Guild" is situated there.

After a good night sleeping in the hostel (confortable), we were starving...come on to take a Latvian breakfast!! We drank a good coffee and a typical pastry from Latvia (the green pastry and the stuff who looks like a moon it's salted pastry)

A lot of alcohol (not really cheap), cigarettes,...

Youth Hostel in Riga (Latvia)

It was our hostel. Very nice, clean, people very sociable (only in the hostel, unfortunately...because in Latvia, don't ask nothing, they hate tourists, and more when you say "Ohhh, it's so cheap" and after laughting about that. NEVER DO THAT!!)

Outside the old town, a lot of buildings and flats need to rebuild. They don't have a lot of money, and I remind you that Latvia belong to Sovietic Union until 1993)

The first photo, we were in the plane...we were so tired that we only slept!!

RIGAAAAAAAAAA: WE ARRIVE!!! We found desperately our bus to go to the centre...but nothing, and finally, before to change Euro to Lats (1€ = 0.70 Lats) we took a bus 22A. The bus driver didn't understand english, so we had to talk with gestures!!
- "Go to Stockmann??"
- And the guy smiled and said "Yes , yes, yes"
- So we said "O.k, 1 ticket PLEASEEEEEEE"
- And the guy said "0, 30 Lats each"
- "Ohhhhhh, my goodness, it's so CHEAP (After paying 8€ in Tampere from Train Station to airport, you can imagine that we were really surprising)

So after that, we were so happy that everything were so cheap!!! EVERYTHING. For example, a meal: 2Lats, cigarettes packet: 1Lats (Yes Saï!! Et oui 0, 70 € le paquet!!!Allucinant, le pire c'est que la cartouche est à 14€ Viva Letonia!!)

When we found our Youth Hostel "Elizabeth" (very cheap hotel, 10€ a night) we decided to eat something, we were starving! But it was 00h and nothing was opened; so we chose McDo! (PALDIES means THANK YOU)And we paid in total for 4 meals:......................6 LATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!OUAHOUUUU SO CHEAP! (4€)

Jyväskyla-Tampere

So we took the train in Jyväskylä to Tampere (it's about 1h30). When we arrived we were so happy that we took a lot of pictures....and the time flies!!! And we seeked the bus..but nothing!! and finally after 2 min later, we found the bus...but it was leaving to the airport!!!

So we had to take a taxi and we paid 8 € each...We were so exciting to go to Riga and we were so boring in the airport (it's a really small airport and there is only a fucking shop..!)
But finally the plane arrived and we could jump into it! Ouhhhh let's go to Riga!!
